Role: Manager, Creative Development - National Geographic Studios
Growing up, reading National Geographic each month opened my eyes to the power of storytelling and the magic of our world. When I joined the company as Creative Development manager, the 125 year old brand was at a crossroads, working to find their place in a new digital-led media ecosystem.
Our challenge was to develop IP that viewers would seek out in an oversaturated market, as well as create and adapt formats for a millennial audience. At first, this meant overhauling the development pipeline and work OS to make the creative process more collaborative across silos, allowing us to develop 360 degree properties that extend beyond the TV screen. This resulted in a 300% YoY increase of content hours green-lit.
This role also took on creative facets of development including concept and script writing, brainstorming, building decks, editing sizzles, and representing NG Studios on panels.
Development Projects
During my tenure at National Geographic I was lucky enough to have a part in reviving the prestigious Explorer anthology series and developing Neil deGrasse Tyson’s popular StarTalk podcast into a (now 4 time Emmy-nominated) TV series.
