Delta Air Lines connects people to places, people, AND potential. This is the story we wanted to tell when asked to create a program that activated Delta’s NBA team sponsorships and showcased Delta’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
We started with a simple stat: 90% of US sports front office leadership is non-diverse. Understanding the overwhelming positive impact People of Color have had on sports; this number didn’t sit right with us, so we created Delta Business Class.
Delta Business Class is a student immersion program designed to create networking and mentorship opportunities for HBCU students in sports front offices, connecting the country’s rising diverse talent with the people and places that can help their careers take off.
Over the course of the spring semester, Delta Air Lines flew students from Texas Southern University, Morehouse College, Coppin State University, and Grambling State to four NBA team headquarters. We worked with each team to organize a week long “career immersion experience” at each stop, introducing students to every facet of how a pro team operates, from marketing to ticket sales to player operations.
